The Mercedes-AMG Formula One team celebrated a win at the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, with trackside power unit engineer Arun Rajkumar lifting the Constructors’ trophy on the podium. Rajkumar, who originates from a Sri Lankan Tamil family, works as a key engineer for the Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains division.

This achievement highlights the technical expertise behind the scenes at the racing team. The Constructors’ Championship serves as the premier annual award in Formula One, acknowledging the collective effort of mechanics and engineers who design and build the vehicles. While the Drivers’ Championship often garners significant media coverage, the Constructors’ title remains the primary goal for teams due to its influence on prize money distribution and logistical advantages for future seasons.

Rajkumar holds an engineering degree from the University of Birmingham. He initially joined the Mercedes HPP team as a mechanical engineering placement student before securing his current role, where he focuses on monitoring and optimising the reliability and performance of power units throughout race weekends.
