Jofra Archer says he's frustrated watching Australia's fast bowlers dominate on day one at the Gabba while he's at home recovering from injury.

Archer was interviewed from his home by Channel Seven during the tea break on day one and said it was hard to stomach watching Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc rip through England's top order.

“It was a tough one to take in seeing the ball seaming and bouncing about a bit... jeez, this is really one cricket tour as a fast bowler that you don’t want to miss.” Archer said. "This is really one cricket tour as a fast bowler you don't want to miss."

Archer gave an update on where his elbow is at after the latest scan.

"Results came back yesterday and it's looking quite promising that things will move forward quite nicely," Archer said. "It's just a matter of waiting a little bit more and being a little more bit patient. I'm almost at the end of the road."

Archer was surprised not to see Jimmy Anderson or Stuart Broad in England's XI but he trusted Joe Root's decision-making.

“Well, they look pretty balanced so I'm not too sure around the reasoning why Jimmy or Broady isn’t in the team," Archer said. "But I know that ‘Rooty’ is a very smart man and I know that he probably would have weighed up all the options and this might have been the best plan or the best team to go into the first Test with so I'm just going to back him on that."
