After not competing since the women's team gymnastics final, Simone Biles finished her Olympic campaign in style as she secured a bronze medal on the beam.

Biles had pulled out of the all-round, vault, floor and uneven bars after suffering from a mental block called the 'twisties', but the 24-year-old returned on the last day of the artistic gymnastics in her favoured event of the beam.

Biles received a warm welcome on her return and scored a solid 14.000, ending the routine on a double backward somersault to double pike on the mat.

It was enough to put her in second place of the competition with another five gymnasts yet to come.

It was only the last gymnast that could better Biles' score, putting the American into third place, as she claimed the bronze medal.

"It's definitely sweeter than the bronze I won in 2016," Biles said to the BBC.

"It's been a very long week, a very long five years.

"I didn't expect to win a medal today, I just wanted to go out and do it for me, and that's what I did."

"My mind wasn't there for the other events, but the beam I could safely do."
