He became disillusioned with the idea of being an artist. He only learned to sing because he had to. He never really liked his voice, and still don't really. So he decided he'd just be a songwriter. One day, his former producer, Jimmy Ienner, called and said he was working on the film Dirty Dancing. He had this one song, and he thought Eric was the guy to sing it. He sent the tape and they ended up recording the song. The next thing he knew, Dirty Dancing sold 15 million albums, and all of a sudden, Eric was a performer again."
