
Jim Reeves went to the University of Texas on an athletic scholarship where he was a Base Ball pitcher, He eventually joined a semi-pro team.
After his short-lived baseball careers Jim Reeves was hired at KGRI radio station in Henderson, Texas. He spent several year there being a disc-jockey, announcer, talk-show host and eventually co-owner .
In 1952 Jim Reeves was the host of the Louisiana Hayride on KWKH radio station. The singer for the show was unable to make it into work one day so Jim Reeves filled in as a singer. An executive from Abbott Records was at the station and heard baritone voice of Mr. Reeves and signed him to a record contract.
Even though Jim Reeves died in a 1964 plane crash his career and fame went on for almost two more decades. He left so much unreleased material behind that his wife was still releasing singles and albums until 1984
In 1962, a plane that Jim Reeves was taking home encountered turbulence. It was then he decided to get his pilot's license. He took lesson and end up getting his license and a small plane to travel in on tours. For over a year everything went fine until one fateful night in July of 1964 as he flying to Nashville his plane crashed. The next day all of country music mourned when it was announced that Jim Reeves was dead.
