FFR president Bernard Laporte has confirmed that former Montpellier head coach Fabien Galthie will take charge of the France national team later this year.

Galthie, who has also had stints with Stade Francais and Toulon, will replace current incumbent Jacques Brunel following the conclusion of the World Cup.

“I’ve named Fabien Galthie as coach,” Laporte told French newspaper Berry Republicain.

Les Bleus have struggled under the guidance of Brunel and finished the recent Six Nations in fourth place with just two victories.

They have already looked to alter things for the upcoming tournament in Japan with Galthie joining the set-up as skills coach before his promotion.

According to reports, Racing 92 boss Laurent Labit will be in charge of the backs after the World Cup, with William Servat looking after the forwards, while Shaun Edwards has been linked to the role of defence coach.
