Lionel Richie has been named the 2016 MusiCares person of the year.

He'll receive the honor at the foundation's annual gala in Los Angeles on February 13.

Richie is being recognized for his "significant creative accomplishments as well as his career-spanning charitable work," according to the foundation.

The gala, held two days before the Grammy Awards, will feature performances by Pharrell Williams, Luke Bryan and Lady Gaga.

"Lionel's artistry is a genuine blend of emotional connection and poignant lyricism, and we look forward to a truly magical evening that will highlight his astonishing and inspiring body of work," said a rep for MusiCares.

The gala also features a silent auction and dinner, with proceeds helping musicians in need of financial, medical or personal assistance.
