Chris Hemsworth has reportedly signed on to appear in the upcoming "Ghostbusters" reboot featuring an all-female leading cast.

The comedy will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones and Hemsworth now becomes the first male star committed.

The film's director Paul Feig broke the news via Twitter and, according to washigntonpost.com, Hemsworth will play a similar role to Annie Potts' Janine Melnitz for the original series.

Sony has reworked the role for Hemsworth, making his a more central character to the story.

The news comes at a comedy-heavy period for the action star, who is also set to appear in "Vacation" this summer.

"Ghostbusters" is set to go into production this summer and will hit theaters July of 2016.
