If you're planning on seeing Love & Mercy, a new biopic based around the life and career of Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys songwriter is hoping you will relate to his struggles.

"I hope they take away closeness to me and can identify with my mental and emotional troubles and can appreciate my love story with Melinda Ledbetter Wilson and stuff like that," Wilson told Cleveland.com when asked what he hopes people take away from the film.

Love & Mercy will be released in theaters on June 5.

"Well, it's quite an experience," he said of watching the film.

"Some of it was very, very enlightening. Some of it was very depressing because of what I went through when I took drugs.

I thought it was brilliantly done. I thought the casting was great and the actors portrayed me in a very good, special way."
