Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter Film Director Albert Maysles Dies

Albert Maysles, who served as a director on theRolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter, has passed away at the age of 88.

According to The New York Times, Maysles died of natural causes in his Manhattan home.

Maysles and his brother David, who passed away in 1987, followed the Stones on their 1969 U.S. tour which culminated in the now infamous Altamont Free Concert.

While the band was performing on stage, a fan in the crowd was stabbed to death, and this tragic incident was captured on film.

In addition to Gimme Shelter, Maysles also helmed projects for the Beatles,Orson Welles, Marlon Brando and Rufus Wainwright.

He won a pair of Emmys and was nominated for an Oscar during his long career.

He is survived by his wife, Gillian, and three children, Rebekah, Sara and Philip.
