Smokey Robinson and his ex-wife, Claudette Robinson, are in the midst of resolving a dispute over song rights.
Both parties told a judge earlier this month that they had reached a settlement in principle.
The battle between the two parties has to do with termination rights under the 1976 Copyright Act.
Smokey, who is known for singing songs, such as "My Girl" and "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," was in the process of reclaiming rights to his work when his ex-wife claimed she was owed 50 percent of the profit from his songs.
After this Smokey filed a lawsuit for declaratory relief, while Claudette filed counterclaims.
The attorneys have told the judge, "Due to the complexity of the settlement issues involved in reducing the parties' agreement to a long form, which issues include having to address different income streams, and possible future uses and disposition of the copyrights and income streams, the parties require additional time to finalize their settlement agreement.
The agreement also requires input from family law and music transactional counsel, in addition to litigation counsel."
Smokey and Claudette were married from 1957 to 1986.
