The United States military has severely depleted its primary missile defense inventory during the ongoing war with Iran raising serious concerns among senior Pentagon commanders and regional allies. Internal reports reveal that roughly eighty percent of interceptors for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system have been exhausted compared to pre-war levels while approximately half of all Patriot interceptors have been consumed.

Before the conflict began estimates from the Center for Strategic and International Studies indicated the United States held an inventory of around four hundred fifty two THAAD missiles and approximately two thousand two hundred modernized Patriot interceptors. In addition to these shortages the US Army has expended virtually all of its long-range precision surface-to-air weapons during the hostilities.

This critical shortage of air defense munitions was directly highlighted to President Donald Trump by his senior military advisers prior to his decision to cancel recent planned strikes against Iran marking at least the second time these concerns have been formally raised during discussions about potential military escalation.

Gulf allies who depend heavily on American air defense systems have also voiced growing alarm over the depleted stockpiles. These nations fear the severe reduction in available interceptors will critically undermine their own defensive capabilities against potential Iranian missile and drone retaliation should the conflict escalate further.
