
Andy Burnham is making his first speech as Britain’s new prime minister at Downing Street after arriving from Buckingham Palace where he was invited by King Charles III to form a government. He is the UK’s seventh leader in a decade.
He arrived at 10 Downing Street, greeting a crowd of supporters who met him with rapturous applause. He shook hands and hugged people lining the street.
Britain’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Andy Burnham Gave his first speech as leader.
“Britain needs to show the world that we can regain our stability once again, and that is our challenge: to make politics work, to make it work better,” he said.
Burnham said that he is “acutely conscious” that he is the latest in a long line of British leaders in recent years.
