Petroleum Resources Corporation Chairman D.J.A.S. de Rajakaruna stated that there is no fuel shortage until the end of next month and confirmed that the QR code system is currently functioning without issues. Speaking at a press conference on the 15th, he noted that public panic following the start of the conflict led to an unusual spike in consumption.

The QR system was reinstated at midnight on the 14th as a strategic measure to curb excessive consumption and eliminate queues caused by panic buying. Rajakaruna assured the public that there is no need to wait in lines, as the allocated fuel quotas are available at stations. He observed a 20% increase in fuel usage recently, driven by both general anxiety and individuals attempting to hoard or trade fuel illegally.

While some technical synchronisation issues occurred this morning at filling stations and on the website, the Chairman confirmed that all systems are now updated. Existing QR codes remain valid, though those with new vehicles must register. He emphasised that the government is closely monitoring fuel station owners and will strictly enforce the law moving forward.

Provisions for passenger transport will continue through the CTB, with plans to adjust QR quotas based on specific routes shortly. Fuel for agriculture, industries, and fisheries will also be facilitated starting tomorrow. Rajakaruna highlighted that these measures are a proactive response to global oil price hikes and supply risks seen in other countries due to the international conflict, urging the public to limit unnecessary travel and cooperate with the quota system.
