Members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) filed a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today (11), alleging that the Private Secretary of the Speaker is concealing evidence related to an ongoing investigation against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
The complaint follows a previous grievance lodged by the suspended Deputy Secretary General of Parliament, Chaminda Kularatne, who accused the Speaker of several acts of corruption. SJB MPs pointed out that the Speaker's Private Secretary, Chameera Gallage, has reportedly requested "certified information" from the Secretary General of Parliament concerning the same data involved in the bribery probe, which the opposition views as an attempt to interfere or suppress evidence.
Gampaha District MP Harshana Rajakaruna, speaking to the media after filing the complaint, emphasised that no one should be allowed to influence witnesses or interfere with the commission's independent process. He condemned such actions and called for a transparent investigation. Badulla District MP Chaminda Wijesiri added that this case is a crucial test of the Bribery Commission's independence, noting that the public deserves to see accountability in matters involving high-ranking officials.
Other MPs present at the commission included Mujibur Rahman, Chathura Galappaththi, and S. M. Marikkar.
