The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Sri Lanka and Finland to establish a formal political consultation mechanism.

This year marks the 72nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, which originally began in 1954.

The proposed agreement seeks to advance and strengthen cooperation across several sectors, including political and economic relations, education and cultural exchange, environmental and consular matters, and regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

The Cabinet endorsed the proposal presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism to formalise this mechanism.

This move aims to elevate the long-standing partnership—built on seven decades of social, economic, and diplomatic ties—into a more active and structured collaboration.
