Former President and United National Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the New Magazine Prison last Friday (30) to check on the welfare of Saman Ekanayake, who remains in custody.

Wickremesinghe arrived at the facility around 9:00 AM and engaged in a discussion with his former secretary for nearly an hour.

The visit follows the Fort Magistrate's decision on the 28th to remand Ekanayake until the 11th of this month.

The detention relates to allegations concerning expenditures incurred during a trip to England while Wickremesinghe held the presidency.
