The Nagollagama Police apprehended a suspect involved in an assault on Sumedha Kumara Herath, the National People’s Power (NPP) Chairman of the Mahawa Pradeshiya Sabha.

The incident occurred the day before yesterday (31) near the Nagollagama Rural Bank office, which served as a polling station for the Mahawa Multipurpose Cooperative Society election.

Reports from the Mahawa District Hospital confirm the Chairman received medical treatment following the encounter.

Initial police investigations suggest a verbal dispute with an individual contesting from the joint opposition led to the physical altercation.

Authorities intend to produce the suspect before the Mahawa Magistrate.
