
A female police officer attached to the Badulla Divisional Crimes Investigation Bureau was taken into custody for alleged involvement in heroin trafficking.
The suspect was arrested around 9:30 PM yesterday (26) at the police official housing complex in Kailagoda, Badulla, in possession of 4 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin, along with Rs. 26,000, suspected to be earned through illegal sales.
Four other suspects, including three women and one man, were also apprehended for possession and involvement in the trade.
Police investigations revealed that the group consists of members from the same family.
The arrested officer is a 38-year-old married woman residing in Dodangoda, while the other suspects are residents of Badulla, Haegoda, and Udenigama, aged between 41 and 71.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off received by the Ambagasdowa Police OIC, Inspector H.M. Abeysekera.
It was further uncovered that the officer allegedly deposited the proceeds from the drug trade into a bank account belonging to her mother. Joint investigations by the Badulla and Ambagasdowa Police are currently underway.
