
Total drug seizures across Sri Lanka reached 23,692kg in 2025, marking a significant escalation in enforcement operations. Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wuttler stated that this volume includes heroin, cannabis, cocaine, hashish, and crystal methamphetamine.
The spokesperson noted that 2025 saw the highest number of arrests related to drug trafficking and organized crime. Heroin seizures rose from 832kg in 2024 to 1,821kg in 2025, while cannabis confiscations more than doubled, increasing from 8,359kg to 17,189kg within the same period.
Efforts to dismantle international networks resulted in the extradition of 11 high-level traffickers in 2025, following 10 similar extraditions in 2024. These operations successfully brought 21 major drug kingpins into police custody over the past two years.
