Nuwara Eliya recorded the lowest temperature in recent history today, according to the Department of Meteorology. The temperature in the city plummeted to 3.5°C in the early hours of the morning.

This marks the lowest temperature recorded in Sri Lanka since 2009. The cold snap has transformed the landscape of the hill country station, as residents and tourists experience record-breaking chilly conditions.
