24 trade unions within the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) warned of an immediate strike without prior notice if the government issues the gazette to dissolve the board without fulfilling the agreed-upon demands.

Representatives from the Engineers' Association, the Technical Engineers and Superintendents' Association, and the Technicians' Association made this announcement during a press conference in Colombo yesterday.

The restructuring plan involves replacing the CEB with six successor companies.

The preliminary transfer plan, which outlines the allocation of assets, liabilities, and duties to these new entities, has been finalised following consultations with the Attorney General, the Minister of Finance, and the General Treasury.

The Minister of Power and Energy is now expected to issue a gazette notification, with Cabinet approval, to officially set the date for the CEB's dissolution.

Union leaders claim that their concerns regarding the restructuring process remain unaddressed, prompting the threat of sudden industrial action.
