Outpatient departments (OPD) at numerous hospitals in the Trincomalee District faced significant disruptions today (14) as the province-wide medical strike entered its second consecutive day.

Many patients who arrived for routine treatments were forced to return home without care, although some hospitals maintained clinical services to avoid inconveniencing those with pre-scheduled appointments.

The strike, led by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA), centres on a demand for the removal of the Medical Superintendent at the Akkaraipattu Base Hospital over allegations of administrative and financial misconduct.
