James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, offered Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum and his brother Josh Kelley their first record deal.
Speaking with the Boot, Josh said that he and Charles had a country rock group called Inside Blue as adolescents.
Brown and his manager Larry Friday tried to get the boys on board, but they turned down the offer.
"We were too young," Josh says. "We were, like, 14. It was ridiculous."
He adds that their dad intervened after Friday tempted the boys with women and booze.
"We're going to go to New York. You're going to do a big CD release party.
All the finest girls in the world are going to be there. Champagne!" Josh recounts Friday saying.
In the end, Charles would team up with Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott to form Lady A.
