Distinguished senior journalist Iqbal Athas passed away last night (12) at the age of 81.

Until the time of his death, he served as a consultant editor for The Sunday Times newspaper, capping a celebrated career in Sri Lankan journalism.

His remains are currently placed at No. 11C/1, Siriwardena Road, Hill Street, Dehiwala, for the public to pay their final respects. The funeral proceedings began this morning at 9:00 AM.

Final rites for the veteran journalist take place this afternoon (13) at the Dehiwala Muslim Burial Ground.
