A special meeting between Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath and renowned judoka Adam Yandiev took place yesterday (08) at the Ministry.

The discussion focused on enhancing sports tourism in Sri Lanka, during which Yandiev, the founder of the world-famous "Salam Cup" martial arts tournament held in the UAE, expressed interest in hosting an exhibition tournament in Colombo alongside the main event.

The "Salam Cup" features competitors from 160 nations across 13 different categories. This internationally recognised event attracts high-profile athletes and prominent figures from the film industry.

Yandiev highlighted that such an opportunity would not only bolster the domestic sports tourism sector but also significantly elevate Sri Lanka's profile within the global sporting community.

Sri Lanka Tourism Convention Bureau Chairman Dheera Hettiarachchi also participated in the discussions alongside the Minister.
