The Central Bank of Sri Lanka, as the custodian of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), the country’s largest superannuation fund, will introduce major service and system upgrades to improve efficiency and accessibility for its members.

The planned improvements will benefit nearly 22 million EPF member accounts, with a focus on delivering faster and more convenient services. Key initiatives include a transition towards a paperless operating environment, expanded digital contribution payment systems and the introduction of a unified “One e-system”.

These measures are expected to reduce processing delays, enhance transparency and accelerate both pre-retirement and retirement benefit payments.

Alongside service enhancements, the EPF will continue its policy of prudent investment diversification aimed at strengthening risk-adjusted returns while safeguarding the long-term security of members’ retirement savings.

Looking ahead, the Central Bank said that while it has no objection to transferring the EPF’s agency function outside the Bank, the Government has decided to retain this responsibility with the Central Bank.
