Approximately 500 police officers have faced disciplinary action due to involvement in drug-related offences, Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya revealed.

He added that steps have also been taken to dismiss several officers implicated in drug-related crimes.

The IGP made these remarks during the passing-out ceremony of new police officers at the Sri Lanka Police College grounds in Anuradhapura.

Speaking at the same event, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala highlighted that the current government has introduced multiple initiatives aimed at eliminating underworld activities, organised crime, and drug-related offences from the country.

Both the Minister and the IGP congratulated the newly commissioned officers, underscoring the significance of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and dedication as key pillars for a successful career in the police service.
