Several senior police officers are facing disciplinary proceedings following allegations of negligence during an investigation into a road accident involving the former Speaker of Parliament, Ashoka SapumalRanwala.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) ordered the probe after concerns were raised regarding the conduct of officials at the Sapugaskanda Police Station.

A review conducted by the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Control and Road Safety concluded that the Officer-in-Charge, the head of the Traffic branch, and supervising senior officers had neglected their official duties following the collision on December 11.

The investigation into the police's handling of the case found significant lapses in how the initial inquiries were managed.

IGP instrcted the Police Special Investigation Unit to launch a preliminary inquiry and initiate formal disciplinary measures against the officers involved.
