The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, announced that District Secretariats have been given an extension until the 31st of this month to submit information regarding vehicles damaged by the disaster. Following the collection of this data, a program is planned to implement mobile services at the District Secretariats in January to provide vehicle owners with the necessary information and resolve related issues.

The Commissioner General stated that the exact number of vehicles damaged by the disaster is still unknown and that the Department expects to receive this information from the District Secretariats by the end of this month.

Amarasinghe noted that they intend to collect separate information regarding damaged government vehicles and private vehicles. Upon receiving the details, they will hold the mobile services in January at the relevant District Secretariats to provide vehicle owners with the necessary information and work towards resolving their problems.

He mentioned that information on vehicles buried under soil due to landslides in certain areas has not yet been received, and they expect to obtain this data through the respective District Secretariats. It has also been reported that the relevant documents for some vehicles have been destroyed. Therefore, the Commissioner General expects to provide accurate information regarding the status of these vehicles and their documents to the owners during the mobile services.

The Commissioner General further stated that they will seek the cooperation of the Divisional Secretaries and other relevant officials for these special mobile service programs, which the Department of Motor Traffic intends to carry out at the respective District Secretariats in January. These mobile services will be conducted in the areas where the affected people reside for their convenience.
