Mark David Chapman, the killer of John Lennon, has been denied parole for the eighth time.

The board in charge of determining whether Chapman was fit for release wrote that he was still a threat to society.

The panel noted that "your release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would so deprecate the serious nature of the crime as to undermine respect for the law."

Chapman, who killed Lennon in 1980, is currently being held at the Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, NY. He fired five shots at the former Beatle on Manhattan's Upper West Side, hitting John four times.

He was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in 1981. He's up for parole again in 2016.
