John Mellencamp has announced that his upcoming studio album, Plain Spoken, is due on September 23. The rocker also revealed the 10-song track list featuring all new original material.

Mellencamp hooked up with producer T Bone Burnett- the third consecutive collaboration for the two.

"I never want to work with anyone else," Mellencamp commented last year. "He's a minimalist. He was able to strip down all my songs.

My Nineties records were almost paint-by-numbers. He came in and said to me, 'You don't need this part. You don't need that part. Take out these background vocals.'"

The lead single, "Troubled Man," hits iTunes on Tuesday, August 19.
