Neil Young has canceled a concert in Israel amid security concerns in the region.

Young had been slated to perform on July 17 in Tel Aviv and had faced criticism and calls to cancel the show from various sources, including Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, who claims that concerts in Israel show tacit support for the Israeli government's treatment of Palestinians.

Young's spokesperson noted that the concert was canceled due to the ongoing tensions, explaining that rocket launches between the two groups have "rendered the event unsafe at this time. We'll miss the opportunity to play for our fans and look forward to playing in Israel and Palestine in peace."

Young explained that, instead of holding the concert,

"I will be making donations to both the Louise Tillie Alpert Youth Music Centre of Israel, and Heartbeat, two organizations that teach music to Palestinian and Israeli youth simultaneously by enabling them to play music together."
