Love Island is on big screen?

Could the show about sexy singles be headed towards the big screen? ITV America is certainly considering the possibility. Just imagine the possibility of Sydney Sweeney, Kristen Bell or Chloe Fineman starring as host Ariana Madix.
David George, CEO of ITV America, which produces the show for Peacock in the U.S., told Deadline that he has had conversations about translating the dating show to the feature space as part of a broader strategy of taking more advantage of its own IP.
He said the success of the show in the States – it truly broke out last year with Season 6 – was a “lightning bolt” for him because he realized it operates more like a sport than a television show.
“Why are we not taking Love Island and figuring out how we’re going to translate that into the movie world?,” he said. “There may be something going there. I can’t even begin to tell you what it is, but there are those types of conversations.”
George also recently took over leadership for ITV America’s scripted strategy, so one could well imagine he and his team convincing writers to set a feature in the villa.
While there are plenty of scripted series that move into the feature world, it would mark a major new lane for an unscripted show. There have been movies that have used reality television as a narrative device such as Marc Evans’ 2002 horror film My Little Eye, which starred Bradley Cooper in an early role, and Daniel Minahan’s Series 7: The Contenders, which featured Merritt Wever and was narrated by Will Arnett.
But only The Real World has ever moved in this direction before and that was nearly 25 years ago. In 2002, MTV produced a made-for-television movie The Real World Movie: The Lost Season, directed by Jeffrey Reiner, about a crazed fan.
“We are open to expanding the possibilities of what that brand is,” added George.
