The Wallabies have confirmed that assistant coach Brad Davis will not be part of their backroom staff at the upcoming Rugby World Cup in France, after he left his position with immediate effect.

The 55-year-old former rugby league player joined the Wallabies from London Irish as an attack coach at the start of the year under Australia’s head coach Eddie Jones.

Resigned due to ‘personal reasons’

However, just hours before the Wallabies were scheduled to board a flight to France it was confirmed that Davis, who also had coaching stints at Bath and the Ospreys, has resigned from his position due to “personal reasons”.

Jones revealed that the Wallabies have already lined up a replacement as he looks to “improve” his backroom staff.

“I think there’s an opportunity for us and I think we’ll improve,” Jones told the Wallabies.

“There’s a potential candidate ready to step up so I think we’ll improve the coaching staff.”

However, Jones confirmed that Scott Wisemantel, who worked would alongside him as an attack coach at England, would not be coming in to fill Davis’ position.

The Wallabies left for France on Thursday and are set to play Les Bleus in their final World Cup warm-up match on August 28 before their tournament opener against Georgia.

Despite being winless and suffering four straight defeats since he took over the coaching reins from Dave Rennie at the start the year, Jones’ confidence in his team has only grown.

“More confident (than the start of the year),” he said.

“I think we’ve got the right squad now and the right balance of energy and enthusiasm. We have youth on our side but ready to go, much more confident.

“…It all comes down to playing the game with good energy, enthusiasm, playing to a particular plan and we’re working really hard on that.”
