Don McLean found time to attend night school at Iona College and, in 1968, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration but turned down a prestigious scholarship to Columbia University Graduate School in favour of becoming resident singer at Caffe Lena in NY. While resident at Caffe Lena, the New York State Council for the Arts invited Don to become their Hudson River Troubadour.
