
Singer, songwriter, composer and icon Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947 the reason he named himself Elton John was due to two Blues legends Elton Dean and Long John Baldry. He also gave himself the middle name Hercules after the Roman good.
He taught himself how to play piano when he was only 4 years old.
In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Queen Elizabeth II made John a Commander of the Order of the British Empire the following year (The queen knighted him several years later, making him officially “Sir Elton John”).
Sir Elton John currently holds the record for the greatest number of performances at New York’s Madison Square Garden. He has performed there 64 times. He took the record on his 60th appearance at that location that simultaneously occurred on his 60th birthday
