Stephen Colbert teamed up with a Paul Simon tribute band called Troubled Waters for a performance of "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" for Friday's edition of The Late Show.

As Colbert explained, he got the tribute band after Simon turned down the collab.

"I've always wanted to do the whistling solo to 'Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard.' So I called Paul Simon . . . and I said, 'Can I do that?', and he said, 'I will not do that with you.'"

Colbert, it turned out, was joking, as Simon turned up for the performance.

The comedian joined in, too, whistling the solo part and singing with Simon. He also got Simon to admit to being a jerk.

"You know Paul Simon's a bit of a jerk," joked the good-natured Simon.
