Elton John now has a species of shrimp named after him, thanks to a professor at Nova Southeastern University in Florida.

Dr. James Thomas, who says he has listened to John's music in the lab his entire career, named the newly discovered special, Leucothoe eltoni, or L. eltoni.

Scientists who discover new species are given the honor of coming up with a name.

"When this unusual crustacean with a greatly enlarged appendage appeared under my microscope after a day of collecting, an image of the shoes Elton John wore as the Pinball Wizard in the movie Tommy came to mind," he said.

Researchers are still studying the L. eltoni, and Thomas says that finding the new species shows "the importance of regular environmental monitoring, especially in tropical environments."
