Homagama Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday (25) ordered the remand until December 9 of a female suspect arrested in connection with a motor car driven by her striking and killing a street dog.

The court was informed that the deceased street dog, which lived near Alubogahawatta Lane in Pannipitiya Vidyala Junction, was struck and killed by the motor car driven by the suspect on November 14. Residents and animal organisations filed a complaint with the Kottawa Police on the 16th, alleging that the death of the street dog was a deliberate act.

The remanded woman is a resident of the Delgahawatta area, Kottawa, Pannipitiya.

Kottawa Police informed the court that information revealed the suspect, who drove the car involved in the incident, had previously told residents in the area that she would kill the street dog.

The incident was recorded on a security camera installed at a nearby house. The Magistrate issued the remand order after viewing the security camera footage.
