The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD has officially introduced its premium sub-brand, Denza, to the Sri Lankan market, marking the brand's inaugural venture into South Asia.

This move is intended to elevate the luxury driving experience in the region with an array of sophisticated New Energy Vehicles (NEVs).

The debut features three models: the Denza D9, the Denza B8, and the Denza B5.

The Denza D9 is a fully electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) aimed at the high-end family transport sector.

Complementing this are the plug-in hybrid models, the B8 and B5, which are designed for drivers who prioritise a blend of performance, advanced technology, and environmental considerations.

Industry observers believe this launch could significantly disrupt the local premium automobile segment, appealing directly to affluent Sri Lankan motorists who are increasingly moving towards electric and hybrid transport options in line with global sustainability trends.

Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific (Auto Sales Division), emphasised the company's long-term commitment to sustainability driven by technological innovation.

He highlighted the strategic importance of the Sri Lankan market to the company's Asian growth plans and praised the local partner, John Keells CG Auto, for its strong customer engagement.

“Sri Lanka is a very important market for us when it comes to Asia. The strategic alliance with John Keells CG Auto in Sri Lanka combines Denza’s cutting-edge new energy vehicle technology with their established market presence,” said Liu Xueliang.

He added that BYD is dedicated to promoting “sustainable luxury new energy mobility” and aiding Sri Lanka's transition to cleaner, more efficient transport.

Potential buyers were given a sneak peek of the Denza models during a pre-booking event on October 1 at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, which generated considerable interest among car enthusiasts and prospective customers.

Analysts anticipate that the official launch today will intensify competition within the country's luxury car segment, establishing new criteria for comfort, design, and sustainability.
