Cyclone Montha has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast of India between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam later today, 28 October 2025. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, anticipating very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds. As a precaution, popular beaches like Manginapudi and Hamsaladeevi have been closed, and police teams have been deployed to prevent public access to the sea
In Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology has issued an amber alert for strong winds across several provinces, including Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, as well as the districts of Trincomalee and Batticaloa. Residents in these areas are likely to experience wind speeds reaching 50–60 km/h due to the influence of Cyclone Montha. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and take necessary measures to reduce potential damage from the strong winds
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has also issued a Level 2 landslide warning for the districts of Galle, Kandy, Kegalle, and Ratnapura, urging residents to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential landslides
As Cyclone Montha approaches the Indian coast, authorities in both Sri Lanka and India are closely monitoring the situation and have mobilized emergency response teams to ensure public safety.
For real-time updates and further information, residents are advised to follow official announcements from the Department of Meteorology and local authorities.
