The government is actively working on the creation of a new gazette notification containing a comprehensive set of rules and regulations for highway usage.

According to Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardena, the new gazette, expected to be published within two weeks, will include provisions such as a minimum speed limit aimed at enhancing the safety of individuals traveling on highways.

The initiative comes after discussions with relevant stakeholders to address the root causes of accidents, including speeding, reckless overtaking, and drunk driving.

The proposed regulations aim to ensure strict enforcement for the safety and well-being of all highway users.
