Paul Simon has issued a tribute to his late ex-wife, recently passed actress Carrie Fisher.

The Star Wars legend passed earlier this week at the age of 60 from complications of heart failure and the folk legend says that she left "too soon."

The pair had a tumultuous marriage, but Simon hit Twitter paying tribute after her death writing:

"Yesterday was a horrible day. Carrie was a special, wonderful girl. It's too soon. -Paul Simon 6:55 AM - 28 Dec 2016"

The pair married in 1983 and were together for just a year before divorcing.

Their rocky romance was chronicled in a biography of Simon, noting "once they saw each other, no one else mattered to either of them."
