Lynyrd Skynyrd has been forced to cancel a pair of shows due to a family emergency with singer Johnny Van Zant.

The band was scheduled to perform at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas on December 2 and 3, but announced that the shows have been cancelled and that the band will return to the venue next year.

No specific details regarding the nature of the family emergency were announced.

"Johnny Van Zant has a family emergency of the greatest degree," reads the announcement.

"Lynyrd Skynyrd looks forward to returning to The Golden Nugget in 2017. Please contact The Golden Nugget box office for refunds."

Van Zant was hospitalized earlier this year with what was thought to be pneumonia, though it was later revealed to be bronchitis.
