The Swedish Academy has confirmed that Bob Dylanwill be unable to receive his Nobel Prize for Literature in person at the awards ceremony scheduled for December 10.

The Academy said they received a personal letter from Dylan which explained that, "due to pre-existing commitments, he is unable to travel to Stockholm in December and therefore will not attend the Nobel Prize Ceremony."

The Academy also said in the statement that Dylan, "underscored, once again, that he feels very honored indeed, wishing that he could receive the prize in person."

It was announced back on October 13 that Dylan would be awarded the Nobel Prize.

He received some backlash after initially failing to respond to the news.

The Academy statement also said, "we look forward to Bob Dylan's Nobel Lecture, which he must give - it is the only requirement - within six months counting from December 10, 2016."
