Eric Clapton has revealed plans to auction off one his paintings by Gerhard Richter valued at roughly $20 million.
The painting, titled Abstraktes Bild 809-2, is set to hit the auction block on November 15 in New York City.
The auction is considered a benchmark for the artist's market value and is expected to provide a massive return on investment for the rock icon.
He reportedly paid $3.4 million for a selection of three pieces from the artist and previously sold off the other two for a combined worth of $55 million.
The massive sales from Clapton, however, could create a slight dip in Richter's value short term.
"When there's a flurry of activity, there's often a pullback afterwards," said Ms. Abigail Asher, a partner at art advisory firm Guggenheim Asher Associates.
"People can retreat in the moment of frothiness."
