A suspect has pleaded guilty in the ongoing murder trial of Johnny Cash's great niece.

Courtney Cash, 23, was found dead and stuffed into a wooden box in her Tennessee home in March 2014 and now a New Jersey man named Wayne Masciarella has admitted to the crime.

Cash's boyfriend was also found dead at the scene and investigator reported that the victims may have gotten into a dispute with the suspect, who had previously been a friend.

"The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has received undue criticism about this investigation," Current Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris released in a statement.

"I'm sure some things could have been done differently, but at the end of the day, we would still be where we are now.

Wayne Masciarella said from the very beginning of this investigation that he stabbed Courtney Cash.

Wayne Masciarella is again taking responsibility for the death of Courtney Cash by entering this plea of guilt.

I am glad that we can put this behind us and move forward without delaying justice any further."
