Ringo Starr's personal copy of The White Album is reportedly the most expensive vinyl record ever sold.

The release was sold last year for just under $800,000, which has now been confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive album sale of all time.

The release was held by Starr and was marked as No. 0000001 from the original pressing in 1968.

It was held in a vault by Starr since he took possession of the release, which was allegedly given to John Lennon first.

The band members each received a copy of the album number between 1 and 4.

There has been some controversy as the to the value of Starr's specific copy, as various pressing facilities were made to make the album at the time and therefore various releases pressed as No. 0000001 exist.

Another copy listed as No. 0000005 was sold in 2008 for $30,000.
