Paul Simon paid an unexpected visit to and performed at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, July 25.

Simon took the stage at the Philadelphia event and sang his rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

His performance followed appearances by Sarah Silverman and Al Franken.

The comedic duo alluded to the 1970s hit being performed when Franken compared him and Silverman appearing together, in spite of conflicting views, to "a bridge over troubled . . ."

The prolific 74-year old artist wrapped up a two-month tour in June 2016.

Simon released his latest album, Stranger To Stranger, in April.
